The Greenville News did an amazingly in-depth article on The Alliance, which is bringing 100 affordable housing units to Greenville, and it shined a large light on our role.
From the article:
“According to Libba King, the Greenville Housing Fund’s vice president for real estate and capital markets, the fund secured a $800,000 subordinate loan for The Alliance on a 23-year term. The Alliance was also approved for a low-income housing tax credit in 2024, which is a federal tax incentive for affordable housing developments.
“It’s almost really one of the few ways that you can affordably build these types of projects,” said Deborah McKetty, in reference to the low-Income housing tax credit. McKetty is interim president and chief executive officer of the Greenville Housing Fund.
McKetty said that five generations of her family grew up in Nicholtown, a historically Black neighborhood in Greenville. She describes the neighborhood as having a lot of pride and being full of neighbors that really care about each other.
“Over the years, the neighborhood kind of fell on harder times,” McKetty said. “To see the revitalization happening where it is, and of course some of the unplanned gentrification, a lot of the neighbors were very concerned about residents being pushed out of the neighborhood.”
