In March 2021, Knox White, mayor of Greenville, and Mary Duckett, President of Southernside Neighborhood in Action, spoke as part of the Inspiring Design speaker series at Northeastern University. They highlighted the need for community-oriented infrastructure development, pointing to the city’s efforts to address inequities and gentrification as it has constructed its park system. The pair acknowledged the anticipated gentrification around Unity Park and their attempts to curb it through the development of affordable housing in collaboration with GHF.
