On February 8th, Greenville City Council voted unanimously to donate 19 parcels of land near Unity Park to the Greenville Housing Fund.  This land, totaling nearly six acres valued at over $8 million, will be used to develop affordable and workforce housing, as well as housing for seniors.  The goal is for longtime Southernside residents to remain in the neighborhood and to preserve the vibrancy of the area.  The donation of land ensures that, as property values and prices rise in anticipation of Unity Park’s opening next year, the neighborhood will maintain affordability for all income levels.  A strong, exciting, mixed-income community surrounding Unity Park will be emblematic of Greenville as a whole.
